When to Mongolia
You can always go to Mongolia and we will always offer you the right thing, but the winters are still cold! The best time is from mid-May to the end of September. October can still be very beautiful in the south, but then the days are of course a little shorter.
The climate will always be a factor that we cannot control, so always bring something very warm, something windproof and something very airy!
Festivals
For skating and ice lovers, we have an ice festival every year on March 1 and 2 on Lake Khuvsgul in the north. A skating marathon is held there for two days, 100 km per day.
In the summer we have the famous Naadam festival, which is always from July 11 to 13 in Ulaanbaatar. If you don't like crowds of people, there is also a Naadam outside Ulaanbaatar on these dates. In every village and in every provincial capital. So with a bit of luck a private Naadam on the steppes or in the forests.
In October there is a beautiful Eagle festival in Olgii, organized by the Kazakhs. There it is demonstrated how the eagles are trained to mainly hunt foxes. The fox's skin is usually used to make hats. The Kazakhs live in the province of Bayan-Olgii and spend the summer in the mountains with their yurts. In winter they descend and live in villages. 90% of this province consists of Kazakhs.
In between, many events have been organized for tourism. We can always include this in the trip program, if there is interest.
Cost
And then the price tag for the trip to Mongolia! Over the last few years and especially after the Covid period, Mongolia has not become cheaper, unfortunately. Yet we try to make a trip possible for everyone. The average cost is 120 euros per day per person all inclusive. This includes transport with a 4x4 jeep, overnight stays in a ger or hotel, food and drinks and entrance tickets to museums or national parks.
Low budget with, for example, a Russian Van and overnight stays in a tent can reduce the price, as can larger groups.
For luxury travel and single travel, the price may be more expensive. This depends on where the overnight stays take place and the choice of transport. This also applies to trekking with horse, camel or yak.
In principle, there will always be a conversation or email contact in which we discuss your travel wishes and determine the exact price
Obligations and recommendations for Mongolia and neighboring countries.
Mongolia is visa free for 30 days for most European countries, as well as for the Netherlands and Belgium. This arrangement applies until 2025. If you want to stay longer, you can extend it for a maximum of 30 days. Costs $4 per day. You must do this 5 working days before your 30 days off expires or immediately upon arrival.
Vaccinations are not mandatory, so everyone can choose for themselves
for vaccination. Ticks are present in numbers, but it is no more alarming than in Europe
Travel insurance is a necessity, especially since we are not affiliated with an umbrella guarantee organization, so we are not liable for injury, damage or theft.
Traveling to China from Mongolia is easy, but it is advisable to arrange the visa for China in the Netherlands or Belgium at the Chinese embassies. It is possible in Mongolia, but it is quite a challenge, a waste of time and the stress that comes with it.
Traveling to Russia is also possible, for which the same applies as for the Chinese visa. It must be taken into account that Russia is officially at war with the West and that a stamp from the Russian authorities at the border could cause problems if other Western or Western-oriented countries are visited with the same passport.
